Tour the Conservatory

How do I schedule a tour?

  • Self-guided visits for small groups are always free—no reservation needed.
  • For guided tours, e-mail mrsimon@ucdavis.edu or elileung@ucdavis.edu with your preferred dates.

When is the Conservatory open?

  • Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. (limited weekend availability for special events and scheduled tours).
  • Drop-in visitors are welcome, but staffing is limited—please call ahead or check the Tours Calendar to confirm availability.
  • Guided tours are by appointment only, with weekend tours dependent on staff availability.

How long are the tours?

  • Most tours last about an hour, with a minimum of 45 minutes recommended.
  • Evening and weekend tours may be possible based on staff availability.
  • Summer tours are best scheduled in the morning to avoid heat and humidity.

How much do tours cost?

UC Davis Affiliated Groups:

  • Groups of 6 or fewer: $59 minimum
  • Groups of 7 or more: $10 per person
  • Set-up only (no docent): $30

Non-UC Davis Groups:

  • Groups of 7 or fewer: $80 minimum
  • Groups of 8 or more: $14 per person
  • Set-up only (no docent): $40

Payment is required in full before the tour (cash, check, or campus recharge). Make checks payable to UC Regents. A receipt will be provided.

What’s included in the tour?

  • A hands-on, multi-sensory exploration of our 3,600 sq. ft. greenhouse.
  • Focus on plant adaptations, including desert, tropical, and carnivorous species.
  • Interactive discussions about plant-insect interactions and ecological relationships.
  • Content is tailored to the age, experience, and interests of each group.

How many people can join a tour?

  • Up to 40 participants, divided into 2–3 docent-led groups.
  • Smaller groups allow for a more interactive experience.
  • Limited disabled access is available to the main aisle and entrance of smaller rooms.

What should I wear/bring?

  • Tours involve standing for extended periods—stay hydrated and eat beforehand.
  • The greenhouse is warm and humid, so dress in light layers and leave coats behind.
  • Aisles are narrow—for safety and comfort, avoid bringing large bags or backpacks.
